The Municipality of Meaford reviewed its short-term rental regulation program during its meeting on June 22, evaluating a framework first passed in January.
While municipal officials believe there are more than 200 short-term rentals operating in the area, only 64 applications were submitted. Of those, 22 were deemed non-compliant.
The primary issues with compliance involve properties exceeding the three-bedroom limit or failing to meet current land-use rules, which require the rental to be a single detached home.
Staff plan to bring forward a report after the upcoming municipal election to look into expanding that three-bedroom maximum.
With council looking to review these regulations, an Official Plan Amendment will be required. A sub-project plan for this phase of work will be provided in the fourth quarter of 2026, prior to the launch of phase three.
The review marks the first of five phases for the short-term rental regulation program.
