Meaford may soon have several properties up for sale.
Meaford council passed a motion Monday to begin the process of selling 15 properties deemed surplus to the municipality’s needs.
Chief Administrative Officer Shawn Everitt says the next step involves bringing a report back to council for a final assessment before public notices are issued. According to a staff report, property owners within 120 metres of the lands will be notified two weeks before the council meeting where the proposal will be addressed.
Once council formally declares the lands surplus, the municipality will review zoning to ensure the best use of the properties. Staff will then complete appraisals to determine the market value of each site.
The land review stems from the 2026 budget deliberations, when staff were directed to review municipal property inventory and identify parcels no longer needed for future municipal operations.
The municipality’s full staff report and list of 15 properties to be sold is available here.
