Bruce County has purchased a property in Port Elgin to support future community use and growth..
The property, 1233 MacKenzie Road, includes a 6,000 square foot building that is the former home of Huron Shores Gymnastics Club.
It’s also conveniently located next to the Lakeshore Hub, and Paramedic Services Headquarters.
The property includes a building, which is expected to support a range of uses.
In particular, the county can build on its existing investments in the Lakeshore Hub area, and can consider how the site can complement nearby uses over the long term.
In a media release, the owner and head coach of the gymnastics club, John Craig, said that over the years he’s enjoyed running Huron Shores Gymnastics Club, and he that he was grateful for the support he’s received from the community as he looks to start the next chapter.
According to files from the county, the negotiated purchase price for the subject property is $1,350,000.
The purchase was funded from the Non-Departmental Facilities Reserve, and uses a portion of the county’s recently realized capital gains.
As of the purchase date, Bruce County will take over operating and maintenance costs for the facility and will manage the property under the oversight of the existing facilities team.
Staff will begin the process to register the property and have it exempted from paying property taxes.
Additional operating costs for 2026 can be managed within the existing annual operating budget.
