The Town of Saugeen Shores has a new fire chief.
Starting Monday, Rob Atkinson will take on the role of director of fire services and fire chief.
Atkinson began his service in Saugeen Shores 2003 as a volunteer firefighter and joined the Town full-time in June 2006. He later moved into the full-time fire prevention officer role and became deputy chief in June 2022.
The Town says, with more than 23 years of experience in fire services, Atkinson, “Brings extensive knowledge and expertise to the role. Rob will assume the role on June 22, pending formal appointment to Fire Chief through Council By-law on July 6, 2026.”
They add, “The Town extends its congratulations and appreciation to Chief Ed Melanson, who will be leaving the Town of Saugeen Shores to join the City of Niagara Falls.”
They add, “Chief Melanson brought about remarkable change within the Town’s fire department, leaving a lasting impact over the past four years. Through Chief Melanson’s leadership and dedication, the Town’s volunteer fire department stands as one of the very best in Ontario.”
