A proposal to build an eight-storey apartment building in Owen Sound’s east side is moving through the city’s approval process.
Council passed a recommendation at its meeting Monday to have staff continue to process a zoning bylaw amendment for a development proposed at 1201 15th Avenue East, a property just southwest of existing retirement and long-term care facilities.
A staff report to council says the developer, Andpet Realty Limited, is proposing an eight-storey residential apartment building, which would contain 128 rental units. Most of the apartments would be one- and two-bedroom.
Councillors were told 10 per cent of the units in the new apartment building would meet Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s definition of affordable.

The apartment development would also include underground parking, and potentially outdoor pickleball courts and indoor woodworking space.
City staff are expected to present a recommendation report for the apartment proposal to council at its July 13 meeting.
