Huron County Pride is responding to incidents of vandalism involving the Pride flag in the region.
A news release Monday from the Avon Maitland District School Board describes vandalism to flagpoles at several of its schools, “which were flying both the Canadian flag and the Pride flag.”
Officials with the AMDSB says they stand with the 2SLGBTQIA+, but Huron County Pride Chairperson Alex Jebson says these occurrences happen too often.
“There’s been the incidents in Markham, there was flagpoles cut down in Norwich just last week,” Jebson tells Country 104.9 News.
“The reality is we become more vocal about the cause of inclusion and support for everyone in our community.”
Huron County Pride says anyone affected by the incident has their support.
“We are standing in support of our queer siblings,” Jebson says.
“We’re keen to be working with the school board and Pride organizations in Perth County and everyone else to address these acts hate and vandalism.”
According to the AMDSB, police have been notified of the vandalism and, “we are assisting by providing video footage to ensure those responsible are held accountable.”
