The Muskoka Lakes Museum is proud to announce the official launch of its 2026 feature exhibit, Mahogany in Motion: 55 Years of the MLA Antique Boat Show, a compelling tribute to craftsmanship, heritage, and the dedicated community that has shaped and sustained Muskoka’s boatbuilding legacy for generations.
“Mahogany in Motion is more than an exhibit, it’s a celebration of the community, skills, and stories behind one of Muskoka’s most cherished traditions,” said Museum Manager Rachael Thiessen. “Beyond the remarkable craftsmanship of these boats, this exhibit honours the Muskoka Lakes Association’s passionate dedication to Muskoka’s heritage and its community of collectors, restorers, and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to preserve and protect this heritage for future generations.”
The community is invited to celebrate this milestone at a special fundraising event that brings the exhibit to life through docent-led experiences, a silent auction, bar service and refreshments, and the museum’s crowd-favourite interactive game, “Artifact or Fiction.” Tickets are now on sale on the Museum’s website, https://mlmuseum.com.
Proceeds from the event will directly support the Muskoka Lakes Museum’s Annual Fund, enabling the development of future exhibits and the expansion of educational and community programming.
“Our museum’s programming is designed to connect people to Muskoka’s history in meaningful ways,” said Thiessen. “By sharing not only the MLA Antique Boat Show, but also the stories of the people who have cared for these classic vessels over decades, we help visitors understand the living legacy of this region. Support from events like this ensures we can continue offering accessible, engaging experiences that inspire curiosity, learning, and a deeper appreciation for our shared heritage.”
This exhibition has been made possible through the generous support of the Museum’s event sponsors: Martin Merry & Reid Ltd., Port Carling Home Hardware Building Centre, Budget Propane, PH&N Institutional / RBC Global Asset Management, and SWS Boatworks. Their investment in culture, and community programming plays a vital role in advancing the Museum’s mission and enriching the visitor experience.
“Community support is at the heart of everything we do,” added Thiessen. “We are deeply grateful to our sponsors and supporters. Their partnership enables us to present engaging exhibitions, preserve local heritage, and continue serving as a vibrant cultural hub for residents and visitors alike.”
