The Owen Sound North Stars Legacy Ridge Golf Club JEWL women’s lacrosse team delivered a dramatic comeback on Senior Night, storming past the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks 20-13 on Tuesday.
The opening quarter set the tone for a game defined by huge swings in momentum. Owen Sound jumped ahead 4-2 on two goals from Bree Wilkins and singles from London Doyle and Avery Seaman. But K-W seized control late, striking three times in the final three minutes to take a 5-4 lead after 15 minutes.
The Kodiaks carried that surge into the second quarter, scoring five straight to extend their run to eight unanswered goals. Wilkins finally halted the streak with her third of the night, but K-W added one more before halftime to build an 11-5 advantage.
The second half, however, belonged entirely to Owen Sound. The North Stars erupted for a dominant 10-0 third quarter, flipping a six‑goal deficit into a 15-11 lead. Wilkins scored four times in the frame, Doyle completed her hat trick, and Ella Todd, Scarlett Stevenson, and Camryn Laycock each added singles as Owen Sound overwhelmed the Kodiaks at the draw circle and in transition.
The North Stars stretched their consecutive goal streak to 12 before K-W finally broke a 22-minute scoring drought early in the fourth. Owen Sound would outscore Kodiaks 3-1 the rest of the way to cruise to the 20-13 win.
Wilkins powered the offence with a nine-goal performance, while Doyle found the back of the net five times. Laycock and Stevenson each scored twice, with Seaman and Todd rounding out the scoring.
It was a special night for the North Stars as the team honoured their three graduating players following the game. Goalie Mykah Harris, midfielder Hennessy Koeslag and attacker Camryn Stauffer were recognized for their contributions both on the field and as leaders within the program.
The win improves Owen Sound’s record to 7-2. The North Stars will wrap up their regular season on June 19 when they visit the Oshawa Lady Blue Knights.
