Grey Bruce OPP have charged three individuals following an investigation into a vehicle that fled from police.
A vehicle entered a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program check on May 19 in Meaford. It fled after officers determined the driver was in breach of current court-imposed conditions.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, the Grey Bruce Community Street Crime Unit became involved. On June 4, members of the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement unit, the OPP West Region Emergency Response Team, the West Region OPP Canine Unit and the OPP Aviation Unit approached a residence on Grey-Bruce Line in the Township of Chatsworth.
The suspect attempted to flee in a stolen vehicle, which struck a police cruiser and left two officers with minor injuries.
The suspect, a 24-year-old from Owen Sound, then fled on foot before being taken into custody.
An 18-year-old from Kincardine and a 36-year-old from South Bruce Peninsula were arrested inside the stolen vehicle.
During the investigation, police seized a .22-calibre bolt-action rifle.
Police say the three individuals are each charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm and being the occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm.
The driver was also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Police say all the accused have had a bail hearing. The 18-year-old and the 36-year-old have been released.
The Grey Bruce OPP investigation is ongoing.
