The Owen Sound North Stars Legacy Ridge Golf Club JEWL women’s lacrosse team capped off a strong weekend with a convincing 15-6 win over the Halton Hills Bulldogs on Sunday in Burlington, securing the bronze medal at the league’s in-season tournament.
While the Owen Sound offence clicked from the opening whistle, the foundation of the victory was built on standout goaltending from Marly Woodhouse and a disciplined defensive unit that repeatedly forced Halton Hills into turnovers and rushed decisions.
Bree Wilkins powered the North Stars’ early surge, scoring four times in the opening quarter as Owen Sound jumped out to a 5-2 lead. London Doyle added the other first quarter marker.
The second quarter mirrored the first, with the North Stars again outscoring the Bulldogs 5-2. Wilkins added two more goals, and singles came from Doyle, Scarlett Stevenson and Ella Todd as Owen Sound carried a 10-4 advantage into halftime.
The North Stars continued to pull away in the third quarter. Wilkins struck twice more, while Doyle completed her hat trick to extend the lead to 13-5 with 15 minutes remaining.
With the outcome well in hand, Owen Sound shifted to a possession‑focused approach in the final frame, controlling the pace and frustrating Halton Hills’ attempts to close the gap. The North Stars edged the Bulldogs 2-1 in the quarter, with Doyle scoring both goals to seal the 15-6 victory.
Wilkins, the league’s leading scorer, delivered a dominant nine-point performance with eight goals and an assist. Doyle, second in league scoring, added five goals and two assists for a seven-point outing. Stevenson and Todd chipped in with singles, while defender Taryn Weppler turned in a standout two‑way effort with three assists. Camryn Stauffer, Hennessy Koeslag, Rory Jex, Leah Cooper, and Todd also contributed assists in the win.
The victory improves Owen Sound’s record to 6-2 on the season. The North Stars return home Tuesday to host the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks before closing out the regular season against the perennial powerhouse Oshawa Lady Blue Knights.
