Kincardine council has appointed a new councillor-at-large.
Jason Munro was selected during a special meeting on Wednesday evening.
“I’m here today because I care deeply about this community and want to play a meaningful role in helping guide its future,” said Munro in his address to council ahead of the vote.
The vacancy on the council for the Municipality of Kincardine came after the resignation of Deputy Mayor Andrea Clarke on April 13th.
The Deputy Mayor position was then filled by previous councillor-at-large Mike Hinchberger, who was sworn into his new role during a council meeting on April 22nd.
Munro, who grew up in the rural community, shared his work experience with council, and shared how he could transfer the skills learned into helping council make decisions that benefit the community.
“I understand the importance of balancing growth with preserving the character and needs of rural areas,” added Munro. “I’m also passionate about the environment. I believe that as a municipality, we have the responsibility to make decisions that are not only good for today, but sustainable for future generations.”
Applications for the open council position were accepted between April 29 and May 15, 2026.
Following his selection by council, Munro took the oath of office.
He’ll be the councillor-at-large until the end of the current term of council, which is scheduled for November 14th.
