The Tara Legion will honour veterans at a ‘No Stone Left Alone’ ceremony.
Branch 383 Public Relations Officer Stephen McNabb says on Friday, June 12th at 10 a.m., members of the branch, local students, and the local community are invited to join the No Stone Left Alone ceremony being held at the Hillcrest Cemetery just north of Tara, along County Road 10.
The No Stone Left Alone Memorial Foundation is dedicated to honouring and remembering Canada’s veterans and was first created in Edmonton.
McNabb says there will be a ceremony and then students will lay ‘poppy rocks’ at the headstones of veterans.
McNabb says, “It’s a unique opportunity for not just the students and the youth from the local schools, but also the community where they can foster a bit of a connection with the veterans and honour the legacy of military service that our veterans have participated in for Canada.”
A release form the legion branch says it’s an experience that creates knowledge, understanding and appreciation of those who served and of the sacrifice of Canada’s fallen.
“It takes a lot of people to bring an event like this together,” says McNabb who notes there will be students from Tara and Owen Sound at the ceremony. He says everyone is encouraged to attend the ceremony.
They say, “Our vision in organizing this inaugural event is to foster a lasting connection that honours Canada’s legacy of military service through youth education and the act of remembrance at veterans’ headstones.”
In 2025, 17,479 students from 220 communities honoured 114,825 veterans in 336 unique No Stone Left Alone events across 6 countries.
The legion branch says, “The support of our participants and volunteers in this local event is invaluable in inspiring generations to remember and pay tribute to Canadian military service.
“It’s a big event for Branch 383 in Tara. The community is involved as much as possible,” says McNabb, adding, everyone is encouraged to attend the ceremony.
