The Kincardine Library branches saw user growth in 2025.
Library Director Brooke McLean shared an annual update with council during Wednesday’s meeting.
The two branches of the Bruce County Public Library located within the municipality, which are located within Kincardine and Tiverton, saw an increase in library cards issued, and circulation of more items borrowed.
“People are always looking for information,” said McLean. “Libraries have accurate, vetted information, which is really hard to come by these days. People are getting their information online… whether that’s accurate they’re finding; so I like to say that the library is going to be there to get you the right information. You can Google anything, [but] we can help you get the correct information you’re looking for.”
As of 2025, 35% of county residents have an active library card.
The report shared that Tiverton had 358 active cardholders, while 6,895 items were circulated last year.
Kincardine, meanwhile, had 4,363 active cardholders who borrowed 53,520 items in 2025.
McLean said that there was an increase in access to digital items, such as e-books, e-audio books, and e-magazines, and growing access to online newspapers, digital learning courses, and the online streaming service.
The Kincardine branch was also able to celebrate a refresh of its first floor, which created a more flexible collaboration space with improved accessibility, all while creating an inspiring area for kids to read, play, and learn.
McLean was also asked whether she thought libraries would still exist in 20-25 years.
“We’re going to keep building community, and being there and respond to resident needs,” McLean replied. “Whatever those needs are 25 years down the road, libraries will be responsive to them.”
In the following item agenda for Kincardine Council, a request was made for new flooring for the library’s second floor refurbishment for $30,000, which council approved.
