Fundraising has kicked off to restore an aging arena in Goderich for public use.
A campaign has launched to raise $750 thousand for updates to the Goderich Memorial Community Centre.
The arena was closed by the Town of Goderich in early 2025 over concerns about “aging infrastructure, lack of long-term investment and financial constraints in the need to address significant safety and accessibility concerns.”
Officials with the arena’s Board of Directors say the $750 thousand target would, “prepare the lower lobby and upper meeting room for reopening as safe, accessible, and functional community space.”
“Planned improvements include HVAC upgrades, lighting replacement, washroom improvements, accessibility-related work, inspections, and interior finishing.”
A news release says the broader vision for the Memorial Community Centre includes arena floor rentals and dry-floor programming, rather than restoring the ice surface which existed before necessary improvements were identified.
