The Owen Sound North Stars Legacy Ridge Golf Club Junior Elite Women’s League (JEWL) lacrosse team completed their preseason with a narrow 6-5 overtime loss to the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the JEWL Early Bird Tournament on Saturday in Oakville.
The North Stars started the game strong, scoring the games first four goals before the Kodiaks would find the back of the net. The teams traded goals with the North Stars holding a 5-2 lead when K-W scored three unanswered goals to tie the game. The Kodiaks completed the comeback in overtime to advance to the semifinals.
Earlier in the day, Owen Sound advanced to the quarterfinals by winning two of their three games to finish second in their four-team pool.
Game one saw the Stars defeat Kawartha by a score of 6-3. The team followed up the victory with a 12-5 win over Hamilton before dropping a 6-5 decision to Oakville.
The North Stars will look to build on their strong preseason when they travel to Oakville to open their regular season on Thursday. The JEWL team’s home opener will be a week later on May 21st versus the winner of the JEWL qualifying tournament.
