McHappy Day in Grey Bruce was a success.
Proceeds from McDonald’s menu purchases go to Ronald McDonald House which helps families facing childhood illness, by providing a place to stay, food and various programs for families.
Statistics say one in four Canadians has been supported by Ronald McDonald House or knows someone who has.
Ronald McDonald House says $72.3 million was saved by families that would have been out of pocket expenses in 2025.
Steve and Christine Sgro own the McDonald’s locations in Port Elgin, Meaford and Owen Sound. Steve Sgro says the community raised just shy of $35,000 Wednesday.
Sgro says, “A really amazing total and a great response from the towns of Port Elgin and Owen Sound. We’re in the middle of renovations at our Meaford location, so they were closed and not able to participate in McHappy Day this year but looking forward to getting them back on track by the end of next week and back to normal operations.”
“Yesterday, just walking around the stores I had three or four different conversations about meeting people who have used the house. Our General Manager Nadine, she and her family have used the Ronald McDonald House herself.” Sgro says local hospital staff told him about 80 per cent of Grey Bruce area people who use a house in Ontario, use the London house. “That’s where it seems that this area does go when they need the assistance of a house. Just tremendous group of people down there.”
