The City of Owen Sound is launching a new public event to celebrate Canadian Innovation Week next month.
“Owen Sound Innovates: Celebrating #CIW26 in the Scenic City” will be held Tuesday, May 12th at 5:30 p.m. at the Sydenham Campus on 8th Street East.
The free in-person showcase is being presented in partnership with Grey County Economic Development as part of Canadian Innovation Week, a national initiative of the Rideau Hall Foundation recognizing innovation and collaboration across the country.
Organizers say the event will highlight the range of innovation taking place in rural communities, from life-saving medical isotopes to Indigenous culinary excellence and research partnerships connecting health care, education and the arts.
The program includes a panel discussion on isotope opportunities with representatives from the Nuclear Innovation Institute, Brightshores Health System and Georgian College.
A fireside chat will feature chefs from Naagan discussing locally foraged ingredients used in the restaurant’s acclaimed non-alcoholic pairing menu.
Another panel will explore how local actors are helping advance community-based research, with participants from Roxy Theatre, Georgian College and Brightshores.
Mayor Ian Boddy says the event is an opportunity to celebrate the people and partnerships building the region’s future.
Doors open at 5 p.m. Organizers say space is limited and advance registration is strongly encouraged.
