A concert commemorating Red Dress Day happens this coming Monday evening at the Gravenhurst Opera house.
It will be a chance to experience music, art and community the night prior to Red Dress Day (May 5th) which is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People.

Metis singer-songwriter Rhonda Way (above) who is also from Gravenhurst, will perform a live release of her original ‘Red Dress Anthem’ that night.
Way who is also a former OPP dispatcher tells us about how it felt writing her moving, poignant song…
The event starts with a 6 pm reception in Trillium Court featuring artisans from the Kooshkapayiw Arts Collective who will offer guests an opportunity to experience and connect with Indigenous visual art.
Then at 7 pm, the evening continues in the theatre with live music performances by Way, special guests Ashley Bell and Burl Laforme (New Credit First Nation and Six Nations) and Charlie McKittrick.
The event is sponsored by Region 7 of the Metis Nation of Ontario.
