Kincardine Council has decided on their pool of candidates to fill a newly-vacated seat for a Councillor-at-large.
The seat was previously held by newly-appointed Deputy Mayor Mike Hinchberger.
Hinchberger took over the Deputy Mayor position during the council meeting held on April 22nd, following the resignation of Andrea Clarke on April 13th.
Council held a lengthy discussion on Wednesday as to who could potentially fill the open Councillor position, deciding that past members of council could apply for the position.
They’re also looking to members of the public who applied to fill the seat that was left vacant in August 2024 following the passing of Doug Kennedy, which was filled by current Ward 1 Councillor Stellina Williams.
Municipal staff has been directed to reach out to the previously unsuccessful Ward 1 candidates and approved past council members to find anyone willing to fill the at-large seat for the remainder of the current council term.
The decision to consider the pool of potential candidates was made by sitting members of council who didn’t want to feel as though they were influencing any possible decisions that would have to be made by the public in the upcoming municipal election later this year.
