The Walk for Courage is set to return bigger than ever in 2026 after raising more than $48,000 last year.
The fifth annual event takes place Saturday, July 25, bringing communities together across Grey and Bruce in support of mental health and suicide prevention.
Participants can join the walk in Owen Sound, Hanover, or take part virtually.
The event was founded by the Courage family in memory of Jeff Courage, who died by suicide in 2019. What began as a tribute has grown into a major annual fundraiser supporting CMHA Grey Bruce programs and services.
Funds raised help provide counselling, education and training in schools and workplaces, as well as housing and community supports.
Greg Courage says, “This walk means so much to our family, and seeing it grow each year shows that many people want to make a difference and support mental health in Grey Bruce.”
Organizers have also launched a new website and fundraising platform at walkforcourage.ca.
Don Vail, Communications and Fund Development Manager at CMHA Grey Bruce, says “The reason we walk is serious, but the event itself is filled with connection, hope, community, and even laughter. It’s a reminder that no one has to face things alone.”
Anyone who registers before May 5 will be entered into a draw for a pair of tickets to the June 5 Blue Jays game in Toronto.
An online auction will also return this year, with more details to be announced closer to the event.
Residents can register as individuals or teams, or support the event through donations or sponsorships.
