Mike Hinchberger is Kincardine’s new deputy mayor.
The sitting councillor was given the role after the deputy mayor position was declared vacant during Kincardine council’s meeting Wednesday, following the resignation of Andrea Clarke.
Council chose to the fill the vacancy by appointment, with the next municipal election cycle just months away.
Now, the council seat left vacant by Hinchberger needs to be filled.
“In accordance with legislative requirements, council will fill this vacancy by appointment within the prescribed timeline. Further details on this process will be shared in the coming weeks,” a release from the municipality explains. “Under provincial legislation, a by-election is not permitted for this vacancy, as it occurred after March 31 in a municipal election year.”
