A 35-year-old Owen Sound man has been charged with assault following a disturbance in the city’s downtown core.
Owen Sound Police Service say officers were called just before midnight on April 21 to a downtown street after reports of an altercation involving several individuals.
Police say an on-duty security guard who was in the area checking a nearby building witnessed the disturbance and attempted to intervene and mediate the situation.
During that intervention, investigators allege the guard was assaulted, including being headbutted and repeatedly punched.
Other people at the scene reportedly stepped in and pulled the accused away from the victim before officers arrived.
Police say both the accused and the security guard suffered minor injuries. Both were treated medically and released.
Investigators also confirmed they are aware of video footage of the incident that has circulated widely on social media and continue to gather and review available evidence.
The accused was arrested and charged with assault. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on July 16, 2026.
