As Canada marks National Volunteer Appreciation Week, G.R.A.C.E. is recognizing its volunteers and inviting more community members to get involved.
Georgian Riding Association for Challenged Equestrians, a registered charity serving Grey and Bruce counties, offers therapeutic horseback riding sessions for youth and adults facing physical, developmental, emotional, and mental health challenges.
The organization says volunteers play a key role in the success of its spring, summer, and fall programs, helping support both riders and horses. More than 65 volunteers assist G.R.A.C.E. each year.
No previous horse experience is necessary. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old and receive orientation and training before getting started.
Volunteer opportunities include leading horses, side-walking beside riders to help ensure safety, assisting with fundraising and special events, and helping with barn maintenance.
Renee Robins, President of G.R.A.C.E., says many volunteers gain confidence around horses, learn new skills, and enjoy making a meaningful impact in the lives of participants.
