Brightshores Health System is recognizing the importance of organ donation this month.
The month of April is recognized as Be a Donor Month across the province.
During the 2025-2026 year, Brightshores supported 27 organ and tissue donors and their families, saying that each donation is a reflection of generosity at a deeply difficult time.
One organ donor can save up to eight lives, and a single tissue donor can enhance the lives of as many as 75 people.
Meanwhile, Brightshores itself is being recognized for its commitment to organ and tissue donation, receiving a Provincial Conversion Rate Award from the Trillium Gift of Live Network (TGLN).
The award is presented by Ontario Health, the provincial organization that coordinates organ and tissue donation and transplantation services across Ontario.
The conversion rate measures how often potential donors become actual donors, based on how many families are gently approached to choose the gift of life.
Anyone aged 16 or older with a valid Ontario health card is able to register their consent through beadonor.ca, or at any Service Ontario location.
