Goderich’s mayor is giving his reassurance when it comes to fixing the town’s potholes.
During his Mayor’s Remarks on Monday’s council agenda, he shared that the town even acquired a new piece of equipment to remedy the situation.
“We do have a plan, and what this council actually invested in called the Hotbox as part of the 2025 budget, and you’ll see that out and around town right now.”
The Hotbox asphalt trailer heats up the affected asphalt, then presses it down to smooth it out and make a longer lasting repair.
Bazinet also mentioned that the council and staff are doing their best to responsibly serve the town, it can be challenging given concerns from residents that taxes are increasing too rapidly.
“Obviously our roads need some love and tenderness. We all know that, right? But how much are we willing to do? We want to do as much as we can, but we also hear that we don’t want our taxes increase by six or five percent.”
He went on to defend the current council, who understood that property taxes need to keep up with inflation at a bare minimum.
“We can’t get the work done, without having the money to get the work done.”
