Georgian Bluffs is going to be reviewing its snow management efforts and could consider hedgerows as a windbreak in areas prone to heavy snow drifts.
Township council passed a motion from Deputy Mayor Grant Pringle at a recent meeting to direct staff to investigate areas of Georgian Bluffs that require additional snow remediation efforts between routes, and to produce a report with solutions to manage snow.
Pringle says the township has heard concerns from residents about snow clearing in some spots due to drifting conditions.
Living snow fences and day-time staff deployment were noted in the motion as potential options to improvement management of wind-driven snow drifts during winter.
“It’s about doing the right thing for the taxpayers. We have do areas with different scenarios with snow drifting or flooding, whatever that scenario may be,” Pringle says. “And I think the right thing is to look at these individually when they do come up, and come up with a plan.”
The motion passed by council to have staff produce a report comes after they heard a delegation from a resident last month who advocated for the installation of living snow fences near trouble spots for drifts.
