Riders are starting to register for this summer’s Gran Fondo Lake Huron cycling event and fundraiser in Saugeen Shores.
It’s set to go August 15th, and raises money for the local hospital in Southampton.
Executive Director of the Saugeen Shores Hospital Foundation Tracy Murray says, “There are many ways to get involved. You can of course, register to ride at granfondolakehuron.ca and if you’re not interested in riding, we’re always in need of volunteers so you can use that same website to sign up and find yourself a volunteer spot.”
She adds, “There is something for everyone, so if you just want to get on the bike and try it out, sign up for the 10k. We have six different routes, all the way up to 110k and we have a gravel route for those gravel riding enthusiasts out there.”
There are nutrition and hydration stops, and places for repairs.
Participants get a Gran Fondo Lake Huron t-shirt and there’s a catered chicken barbecue lunch as well.
“Everyone gets lots of great swag, your t-shirt, your medal complimentary beer courtesy of Three Sheets Brewing, so lots of things to enjoy when you come out and ride,” says Murray,
The hospital foundation says on its website, over the years, Gran Fondo Lake Huron riders, donors, volunteers, and sponsors have raised over $2 million for local healthcare. Those dollars have helped fund critical equipment, technology, and patient care needs at our local hospital.
The recommendation is to raise $200 per rider.
In 2025, more than 900 riders took part and the community raised over $430,000 for local healthcare.
