Police in Huron County will be paying special attention to distracted drivers in the coming days.
Huron OPP are kicking off their “Stay Focused” campaign Friday, keeping an eye out for drivers not paying full attention to the road.
Distracted driving laws include using a handheld device for communication or entertainment, driving with a display screen visible, and careless driving.
The penalties for these offenses range from monetary fines, vehicle impounds, driver’s licence suspensions, demerit points, and possible jail time.
In 2025, inattentive driving caused 22 deaths, and year-to-date for 2026, two fatalities have already occurred.
The “Stay Focused” campaign runs until April 3rd.
