An Owen Sound man has won $1 million playing the lottery.
Beverly Priebe of Owen Sound matched all seven Encore numbers in exact order in the February 11th ONTARIO 49 draw to win.
Priebe, a retiree, has been playing the lottery with OLG for about five years. “I always add ENCORE to my tickets,” the 70-year-old shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his big cheque.
He discovered his big win the day after purchasing the ticket. “I have a friend I regularly call and she reads me the winning numbers over the phone. As she read each number one by one, I couldn’t believe they matched! I kept saying, ‘Hold on! Hold on!’ When we confirmed I had all seven Encore numbers, my body went numb when I realized I won $1 million!”
Priebe says it took about a week for this win to sink in. “It’s an incredible feeling. I’m still in a state of shock,” he said.
With his windfall, he plans to travel to Newfoundland, buy a new car and treat his former work friends to a nice lunch.
OLG says Encore offers 22 ways to win and can be played in conjunction with most lottery games for an extra $1.
The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart on 10th Street in Owen Sound.
