Grey County has awarded the $7.5 million construction tender for new transportation depot in Ceylon.
The County says the new depot will serve Patrol “D”, the southeastern area of Grey County.
They say currently, the transportation services division operates out of a leased building in Flesherton.
The new facility will include a main operations depot and a standalone winter material storage building, providing the long-term operational capacity needed to support road maintenance and winter services in the area.
County Director of Transportation Pat Hoy says in a statement, “Investing in our operations infrastructure means our crews have the facilities they need to keep Grey County roads safe and well-maintained for residents,” adding, “This new depot will give Patrol D a permanent home and the space to serve our community for years to come.”
The building will also include a lunchroom and meeting space, as well as a secondary backup Emergency Operations Centre for Grey County.
The County says the depot is being designed with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind, in alignment with the Grey County Climate Change Action Plan.
Construction is expected to begin in the spring with the depot completed in time for the 2027 winter season.
