There’s a fun tournament coming up for seniors in Owen Sound.
The Springfest Games are set to take place this spring at the Active Lifestyles Centre Grey-Bruce.
Board Chair George Walton says registration week is March 16th to 20th.
He says last year they had about 60 people and this year they would like to see more, “We’re hoping to double that this year if we can. We have quite a lot of interest just verbally going out, but it is a great way for seniors who want to get together.”
The event welcomes people 55+ to sign up for darts, pepper, euchre, crokinole, bean bag toss and ladder golf. He says there are prizes like gift certificates for local cafes, restaurants or other businesses. There are also draw prizes that range from golf at Stonetree and Legacy Ridge, dinner at Bishops Landing, A Peninsula Ford car cleaning package and more.
The Active Lifestyles Centre is located in the former McQuay Tannery Building beside the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. Programs focus on health and wellness, games and leisure, arts and crafts.
Wlton says there are pig roasts, bus trips, cards, painting classes, yoga, outdoor walking, and billiards to name a few possibilities. All activities support keeping active, engaging socially, maintaining independence, and having fun. They also have groups that bring their knitting, rug hooking or arts and crafts and work on them together, which are always looking for new faces to drop in.
You can drop by the office between 9:30 and 12:30 any weekday to learn more about the centre’s programs.
