Based on the current forecast, Huntsville could receive significant freezing rain and heavy rainfall beginning this evening through Wednesday night.
Freezing rain may fall heavily at times. In this case, the precipitation may not freeze immediately, which could lead to localized flooding in low lying areas. There is potential for power outages due to the accumulation of ice buildup, as well as strong wind gusts.
This storm could impact travel conditions, and residents are advised to be cautious on roads and sidewalks if travel is necessary. Please allow space for Town plows and emergency services to operate efficiently.
Public Works has been busy preparing equipment and will be ready to respond to the storm and keep streets and sidewalks clear and safe.
Residents are reminded to be prepared:
Make an emergency plan:
You should have a plan in place for yourself and loved ones including safe alternative accommodations, should you need to evacuate or your home and property are damaged.
Build an emergency kit:
Everyone should have a 72-hour emergency survival kit, with the supplies needed to be safe and take care of yourself and your family for at least three days, following any emergency. From essentials like food and water to special considerations like medication and pet food, make sure you have everything you need on hand. You should also consider having a generator available in case of extended power outages.
