Veronica Cha Cha Smith won the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation byelection for chief Friday.
Smith ran against seven other candidates to replace Darlene Johnston after she announced in late November 2025, she was stepping out of the role for medical reasons.
Veronica Cha Cha Smith was also elected chief for the 2021-2023 term and has been a band councillor for several terms.
