A byelection to choose a new chief for the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation is set to be held this week.
On Friday, March 6th, polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the community centre at 34 Community Centre Road.
Eight candidates are running to replace Darlene Johnston after she announced in late November 2025, she was stepping out of the role for medical reasons.
In the meantime, Head Councillor Jessica Keeshig-Martin was named acting chief.
The byelection candidates are Pamela Linklater, Beverly Nadjiwon, Martha Pedoniquotte, Efrem Sandy, Nick Saunders, Veronica (Cha-Cha) Smith, Norma Tobey, and Charlene Winger-Jones.
