The Women’s Centre of Grey Bruce is celebrating women and International Women’s Day with a fundraiser breakfast.
On Thursday, March 5, the organization is holding their annual breakfast at the Best Western Inn on The Bay in Owen Sound.
The Fund Development & Communications Manager from The Women’s Centre, Stacey Berry, shared that this year would also feature Lauren McConnell, who co-hosts the podcast This Juicy Life, as the keynote speaker.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together to celebrate women,” she said. “It’s a way to come together as a community with our community partners, our loyal supporters and donors, and really for anybody to just come out and celebrate women as a whole.”
The breakfast will have a raffle, auction, 50/50 draw, and games.
Proceeds raised directly benefit the Women’s Centre, which works tirelessly to provide resources to help protect women, children, and youth from abusive situations.
“Awareness is number one,” Berry shares about the organization’s work. “Getting out there in the community, raising awareness, starting those difficult conversations, getting resources out there as well… letting everyone know what’s available in the community, how to get help, that’s the number one reason for sure.”
The event is also not the only International Women’s Day celebration happening locally.
The next day, The Women’s Centre will be involved in the International Women’s Day Gala, which is being held by the Owen Sound Chamber of Commerce at Cobble Beach.
The gala will also benefit the day-to-day operations of The Women’s Centre.
The group is also looking forward to the grand opening of their front-facing community engagement centre that is set to open in March.
The centre will act as a drop-in resource centre for their clientele.
Tickets for the International Women’s Day breakfast through The Women’s Centre website for $35 each. You can register by clicking here.
