The Municipality of Meaford is moving forward with its plans to regulate short-term rentals by launching a new Short-Term Rental (STR) Registry.
The registry represents the first phase of the municipality’s 2026 implementation plan, approved by council, and is designed to establish clear administrative foundations for future oversight and licensing.
Amy Cann, Director of Development Services, says launching the registry is an essential step toward strengthening safety, accountability and clarity for both operators and the broader community. By gathering consistent information now, the municipality is preparing for a more comprehensive licensing framework expected to roll out in 2027 and 2028.
All short-term rental operators are encouraged to register. The application process requires submission of key safety and operational details, including a fire safety plan, parking plan and an owner code of conduct. Officials say these measures will support safe and responsible rental operations.
The STR application form is available for download at meaford.ca/STR.
Completed forms can be submitted by email, mail or in person, along with a $50 registration fee.
Support materials are available to help property owners meet the requirements.
