The Township of Georgian Bluffs is preparing for the spring melt as above-freezing temperatures arrive, bringing an increased risk of localized flooding.
Municipal officials say this winter’s high snow accumulation has resulted in larger snowbanks and a significant snowpack across the area. As melting begins, drainage ditches and culverts can become blocked by ice and debris, particularly during rapid thaw conditions or heavy spring rainfall.
Public Works crews are closely monitoring conditions and proactively clearing known problem areas to keep water moving and reduce flood risks on roads and properties.
Residents are encouraged to take simple preventative steps, including clearing snow and debris from nearby storm drains, ensuring driveway culverts remain open, directing downspouts away from foundations, and checking sump pumps to confirm they are functioning properly.
Drainage concerns or localized flooding can be reported to the township through its Contact GB service online or by phone at 519-376-2729.
