A group of Arran Tara Elementary School Students appear in a video posted to Instagram for Auston Matthews
A group of young students in Tara are using social media to spread a message of kindness — and they’re hoping it catches the attention of an NHL star.
Mrs. Gordon’s Grade 2/3 class at Arran Tara Elementary School has launched a campaign creating daily Instagram reels aimed at Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews.
The class plans to post 34 videos in honour of his jersey number, all promoting teamwork, kindness, and community spirit.
The initiative grew out of earlier classroom projects, including a food drive for the Tara Area Food Bank and a “Giving Loonie” project encouraging students to perform acts of kindness.
Mrs. Gordon explains they choose Matthews due to his work in the community. She says “We started seeing posts of Auston Matthews who goes and visits kids at the Toronto Sick Kids Hospital and he donates money to cancer and there was clips of him with children where he was giving them their shirts…and just wonderful things and we started looking at all of that and that’s how we chose Auston Matthews.”
While Matthews has not yet responded, the students remain hopeful their message — and their teamwork — will eventually get the hockey superstar’s attention.
