A special hockey night in Owen Sound this weekend will combine sport with support for local mental health services.
The Owen Sound Attack take on the Brampton Steelheads Saturday, February 21st at the Bayshore Community Centre as part of the Talk Today mental health initiative.
Talk Today is a national program led by the Canadian Mental Health Association that provides mental-health resources, training, and support for athletes, teams, and communities.
The evening will feature videos from CMHA representatives and players from the Attack talking about the importance of the program.
Youth & Adult Awareness & Education Supervisor, Jackie Ralph, says “The guys on the team…so many people look up to them…and what’s really awesome is they use that opportunity to be a role model through the messaging that’s going to be right there on the big screen all night.”
Proceeds from the event will directly benefit CMHA Grey Bruce, with five dollars from each ticket sold through the promotion going toward local mental health and recovery programs. There will also be a chance to buy raffle tickets to win an Attack jersey.
Tickets are available online through the Attack’s website, using the promo code “CMHA”.
Doors open at 6 p.m., with game time set for 7 p.m.
