Hanover and District Hospital Auxiliary is being recognized for its generous financial contribution toward the hospital’s recently completed Wayfinding Project — an initiative aimed at making it easier for patients, families, and visitors to navigate the facility.
The project introduced a consistent, colour-coded symbol system throughout the hospital, allowing individuals to quickly identify departments and key areas.
The approach is designed to enhance accessibility, particularly for those experiencing language barriers or reading challenges, and to create a more inclusive and welcoming environment.
The system was developed in collaboration with hospital staff, clinical volunteers, and members of the Patient and Family Advisory Committee.
Their input helped ensure the new signage is practical, intuitive, and reflective of the real needs of patients and visitors.
Hospital President and CEO Dana Howes says hospitals can feel overwhelming, especially during stressful moments, and clear, colour-coded symbols help people reach their destination more easily and confidently.
Auxiliary President Ellen Edgington says the group is proud to support projects that directly enhance patient care and comfort, adding that the Wayfinding initiative will benefit countless patients and visitors.
The hospital expressed its appreciation for the Auxiliary’s continued partnership, noting that community support plays a vital role in strengthening compassionate, accessible care close to home.
