Goderich Town Council has withdrawn a plan amendment that would bring housing to the empty lot at 110 Picton Street.
The property became a topic of discussion last year, when it was proposed that it be turned into a park space that would be usable by seniors, with paved walkways, benches, and gardens to enjoy.
During council discussions and based on community feedback, it was proposed that instead of using the lot as green space, it could be possible to use the property for in-fill housing.
The proposed Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By- Law Amendment would change the subject land’s designation from Community Facility to Residential and zoning from Non-Site Specific Minor Community Facility (CF1-11) to Residential Medium Density (R2) in order to allow multi-residential development to take place.
In a recorded vote, council decided 4-3 in favour of withdrawing the application change, with the recommendation that nothing be altered about the zoning for 110 Picton Street until the right development proposal came along.
