Goderich Council has adopted a new memorandum of understanding for rental terms at the MacKay Centre for Seniors.
Council authorized the new agreement.
The town has provided a long-term stable location and funding for senior programming at the MacKay Centre for 45 years.
During budget deliberations in 2025, the town had approached the centre surrounding an increase in annual rent of the facility, and it was noted that the Town of Goderich had not requested an increase during the time that the Seniors Centre had been operating the facility.
In July 2025, Councillor Carroll and the Chief Administrative Officer attended the MacKay Centre for Seniors July 25, 2025 Annual General Meeting to further discuss and provide further clarification on the 2022 MacKay Centre for Seniors Board Memorandum of Understanding and the requested rent increase.
In Q3 2025, the Town received formal acceptance from the MacKay Centre of Seniors Board Chair of new rental terms and rental increase retroactive to November 10, 2025.
