The Municipality of Brockton had completed updates to its Community Improvement Plan.
The updates to the Community Improvement Plan are to introduce financial incentives that support the development of multi-unit affordable housing on eligible properties across the municipality.
There are now a total of 10 incentive programs designed to encourage economic investment, including grants to improve building facades, signage, and accessibility, as well as environmental stewardship and energy efficiency, converting and expanding vacant and underutilized properties, and the affordable housing reserve fund.
Council formally approved the changes at their January 13th meeting.
Applicants are encouraged to explore both Brockton’s CIP incentives and the County’s Spruce the Bruce program, since Spruce the Bruce is a separate application process reviewed and approved by Bruce County.
The CIP update supports the implementation of initiatives funded through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF).
Brockton was approved for up to $3.4 million in HAF funding to help address housing supply challenges by advancing studies, promoting appropriate growth, and supporting the development of diverse housing options.
Spruce the Bruce applications are available here.
