Nolan Snyder scored a key insurance goal just over six minutes into the third period as the Kingston Frontenacs held off a comeback effort by the Owen Sound Attack to win 5-3 in Ontario Hockey League action at Slush Puppie Place Friday night.
Alex Misiak, Riley Clark, Landon Wright and Andre Mondoux also scored for the Frontenacs (23-22-2-2). All of them found the net in the first period, as the Frontenacs jumped out to a 4-0 lead 13:40 into the game — ending Matthew Koprowski’s night.
Trenten Bennett entered the net for the Attack after Mondoux ripped a slap shot from inside the blueline that found the back of the net, making it 4-0 Kingston.
The game looked over.
But the second period was an entirely different story. Easton Mikus, Julian Brown and Tristan Delisle scored goals in a span of 7:43, as the Attack surged back and cut Kingston’s once-four goal lead to one, 4-3.
Delisle nearly tied the game early in the third, getting a backhand shot on net that rang off the post and stayed out.
Gavin Betts made 19 saves in the win, while Koprowski stopped nine taking the loss. Bennett turned aside 15 of the 16 that came his way after entering the game late in the first period.
The Frontenacs outshot the Attack 29-22 while going 1 for 4 on the power play; Owen Sound finished 1 for 3.
The Attack now head to the nation’s capital to close out their three-game eastern trip on Sunday against the Ottawa 67’s. That’s a 3 p.m. start Sunday afternoon.
