Resident groundhog Wiarton Willie made his annual prognostication of a long winter or an early spring.
Mayor Jay Kirkland translated Willie’s Groundhogese for the crowd gathered in Bluewater Park — Willie did not see his shadow, and predicts it will be an early Spring.
This year is the 70th groundhog day celebration in Wiarton.

Fred la Marmotte in Quebec predicted an early spring.
Willie’s American counterpart Punxatawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter.
