Blizzard conditions are expected to develop in the Grey Bruce region today.
Environment Canada has issued a blizzard warning. Snow squalls and strong winds are expected to create near zero visibility at times on Monday.
“Lake effect snow squalls will begin this morning. Strong westerly winds will develop this afternoon, producing blizzard conditions in blowing snow. Snow drifting will be most pronounced in open and wind exposed areas,” Environment Canada says in its warning. “Winds and blowing snow will diminish this evening, however, snow squalls will continue into Tuesday.”
“Travel will be dangerous and likely impossible due to near-zero visibility.”
Ten to 15 centimetres of flurries and snow squalls are expected today, and then another 15-25 centimetres tonight. Forecasters say the blizzard conditions should develop Monday afternoon as blowing snow picks up in strong winds, with gusts of up to 80 kilometres an hour.
All school buses in Bruce and Grey counties have been cancelled today. All Bluewater District School Board, Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board and French Catholic (Saint-Dominique-Savio) schools are closed today.
