Grey Highlands is set to make a decision on the installation of proposed pickleball courts in Flesherton.
This comes after in December when council approved the installation of four pickleball courts on municipal property next to the Flesherton Arena and Library and that staff work on a partnership agreement with Pickleball Grey Highlands on project funding.
Council did hold off on providing $85,000 in financial support to the project, which would be paid back, until the agreement was completed and brought back for consideration.
Since December, staff have met with with the local pickleball club members who say they are not confident they can repay the municipality’s monetary investment.
To date, the club has raised $65,000 of the $200,00 project. The municipality previously approved $50,000 in funding to support it, leaving the project $85,000 short.
The club is asking for council to approving moving forward with the pickleball courts this year and for Grey Highlands to pay for the unfunded portion of the project, which would be paid back over time.
The club plans to continue to fundraise for the project and through the partnership agreement, it will be responsible for funding future maintenance of the courts.
Council will consider either putting up the needed $85,000 to move the project along, or hold off during its meeting on Wednesday.
