Kincardine council has approved the continuation of the municipality’s doctor recruitment program.
Last year, council had directed staff to review the program and establish a Primary Healthcare Ad-Hoc Committee to gather information and data to make recommendations to Council about the future direction of the Physician Recruitment and Retention program.
The Municipality of Kincardine’s current program has since been successful in recruiting physicians for the community.
The committee has developed a list of recommendations and changes, which was presented at Wednesday’s council meeting.
The list includes continuing the Physician Recruitment and Retention Program, that locum houses continue to be offered as part of the incentives, and that the municipality should complete a space needs assessment to address future requirements.
Kincardine’s Physician Recruitment and Retention program has been in place since 2021.
On average, it takes at least 18 months from first contact with an interested physician to having them start practicing within the community.
