Grey County says it will be busy at this year’s Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference.
It’s set for January 18 to 20 in Toronto, bringing together nearly 2,000 municipal leaders from across the province to discuss the most pressing issues facing rural communities.
Grey County says councillors and senior staff will take part in eight delegation meetings with provincial ministries.
County Warden Andrea Matrosovs says in a statement, “The ROMA Conference is a valuable opportunity for rural municipalities to come together, learn from each other, and explore innovative solutions to the issues that matter most in our communities. The conversations, expertise shared, and insights gained ensure we return home with stronger networks and practical ideas we can put into action for the residents of Grey County.”
The County says, this year’s program includes sessions on trade relations between Canada and the United States, health and human resources in seniors’ care, the AMO Healthy Democracy campaign, among other topics.
Outside of the main program, Grey County says it’s representatives will attend delegation meetings with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, the Attorney General, Ministry of Long-Term Care, Ministry of Natural Resources, and the Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security.
Key topics to be discussed include Conservation Authority changes, housing development, provincial offences court security costs, support for Georgian College Owen Sound Campus, long-term care, access to healthcare, and more.
