Grey Bruce OPP have charged a driver for allegedly fleeing a traffic stop in Meaford.
They say it happened at about 4 in the afternoon on January 10th.
OPP say an officer saw a black Ford pickup travelling on Grey Road 12 without a front licence plate displayed.
The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop after allegedly noting additional concerns regarding the vehicle. They say, when emergency lights were activated, the vehicle accelerated away at a high speed.
Due to public safety considerations, the officer did not pursue.
At about 4:30 p.m., officers attended the registered owner’s residence and located the same vehicle parked beside a shed. An individual was observed near the vehicle and was arrested.
A 38 year old Meaford man is charged with the following criminal code and highway traffic act offences:
Drive Motor Vehicle – Fail to Display Two Plates (Highway Traffic Act)
Drive Motor Vehicle – No Currently Validated Permit (Highway Traffic Act)
Flight from Peace Officer (Criminal Code)
Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand (Criminal Code)
A 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.
